31 August 2012 - HMRC have announced the adoption of the BACS hash code. Given under the Income Tax (Pay as you Earn) Regulations 2003 on 28 August 2012 by the Commissioners of HMRC, this directive formally recognises the obligation of employers to use a hash code when they pay their staff using direct BACS.

19 March 2012 - HMRC has announced a number of key changes to tax law in advance of the introduction of RTI and the start of its RTI pilot next month, in April 2012. Referred to as the Income Tax (Pay As You Earn) (Amendment) Regulations 2012, they will come into force on 6 April, 23 days after they were first published.

HMRC is required to assess and publish an assessment of the impacts and costs of the administrative burden it places on business and economic activity generally and what HMRC terms ‘equalities’ impacts. Impact assessment statements apply to almost all central government interventions.
