PAYE RTI News
P45 gets its P45!
November 14, 2011
Form P45, the most widely known UK tax form, is due to be phased out by HMRC as part of the introduction of RTI. Plans to abolish forms P45 and P46 were included in HMRC's draft regulations for RTI published today.
HMRC said that the withdrawal of the forms was intended to make PAYE easier for employers to operate. However, HMRC also confirmed that in its place, employees will instead be given a ‘leaver statement’ giving pay and tax details they can provide to their next employer, just like a P45.
HMRC acknowledged that the proposal had raised concerns from interested parties, including software developers, and it was working "to explore these concerns and seek a way forward".
